The captain of Vojvodina FC, Dejan Zukić left the ranks of his Old Lady.
One of the most important and most influential players in the modern club history will continue his career in the Austrian Wolfsberger AC, where he signed a three-year contract.
All the fans, sympathizers, the public of Novi Sad, as well as the management board led by Dragoljub Zbiljić, would like to thank our Zuka for everything he has done for the club, since the moment he arrived to Ilija Pantelić Youth Academy, until his debut for the first team in Vranje, against Dinamo in the spring of 2019.
When he was running after the ball on the pitches of his hometown of Bački Jarak and smashed neighbouring gates and windows with his kicks, nobody could have guessed that precisely that boy will stand in the history of Vojvodina FC next to some of the greatest players who wore the jersey of the Old Lady.
Also, few managed to win a trophy in the Serbian Cup, and then play another finale (aside from Stefan Đorđević), and those who broke numerous records, and Zuka was missing only three more matches to reach the number of 200 games played in the jersey of Vojvodina FC.
During these games, he spent over 10.000 minutes on the pitch, scored 33 goals and wrote 18 assists, and as a member of Vojvodina FC he had been a member of all the youth national selections of Serbia.
Yet, some other things speak a lot more about Zuka’s worth and longevity, and confirm the fact that he is one of the most influential and most important players in the modern history of the Old Lady.
Namely, Zukić was the youngest captain in the club’s history, and also the youngest one who reached the number of 100 games played for Vojvodina FC. And finally, what is perhaps the most important thing, with his 197 official games, he is 29th on the list of players with most games played in the jersey of Vojvodina. The last one who played more games than Zukić was Laslo Lerinc, who almost more than half a century ago, played 201 games, in the period from 1969 until 1977, which is almost twice the number of years than Zuka spent in the club, and played almost the same number of games.
The team captain, Dejan Zukić, chose his words carefully when addressing the fans, coplayers, staff, and management, and all those who helped him achieve his dreams by wearing the jersey with the blue star.
- The moment has come when I have to say goodbye to my beloved club, where I grew up, developed and became a player, and a man. Vojvodina has made me into a true player and a man, and that is why I would like to thank all my teammates and coaches who helped me become who I am today. My emotions are mixed, because I love Voša, and that love cannot be described so easily. I would like to thank the director of the Youth Academy, Duško Grujić, who then, along with the coach at the time, Nikola Kovačević, insisted on my arrival to the club. He was also the one to bid me farewell, and he was always there for me, always giving me advice, even when things were not going well, he was by my side in good and bad moments. I would also like to thank the management of the club led by the president Dragoljub Zbiljić, because since he arrived to the club, you could feel a drastic change in every sense, from the dressing room, pitch, stand, to Novi Sad itself, everyone is focused on Voša again, and everyone wants to give her love and support. I think that is why we have, and we will continue to have even more fans, and that our Voša is heading towards a bright future with this kind of support. Voša must and will continue to grow, and I believe that it belongs in the top two positions on the scoreboard every season. Also, I have to express a special thanks for allowing me to make the decision about leaving the club, which the president recognized and felt entirely my desire to show myself and my skills abroad. The club had two offers, the other one was from the USA, but my wish was to stay in Europe and prove myself, because I felt that this was a true football story. The president and the club stayed by my side and I will never forget how my Voša treated me when I arrived, and now when I am leaving. To my team and staff, I wish all the best against Ajax, and in the next season, I will follow every match, and whenever I have the chance, I will be there to support Vojvodina, because for me Vojvodina will always be my second home.
