Member of the second generation of champions, and later the sports director of Vojvodina FC, Svetozar Šapurić, visited the expedition of the old lady at preparations in Cyprus.

On that occasion, he gave the interview for the Club’s YouTube channel, and reminisced about his beautiful memories from Karađorđe. Later on, he stated that he believed that Voša is once again on the right path, as it used to be.

He left Novi Sad in 1999, but Vojvodina FC is still his club that he remembers with fondness. He had won the second championship title with Vojvodina in 1989, and a decade later he was the sports director of the Club, when the old lady played the finals of the Intertoto Cup.

  • Those were unforgettable days. In that 1998, we had a quality team and excellently chosen players. We achieved an envious result, and played the finals of the Intertoto Cup. I will never forget when in the morning of the matchday they informed us that the tickets had been sold out. We needed some more sports luck in the finals, we lost 1:0 at their stadium, and in the rematch, we drew 1:1. Vojvodina is my club, and the most beautiful memories tie me to Vojvodina. If it weren’t for Vojvodina, there might not have been anything else in my further career and future – Šapurić began.

Even though Vojvodina is still waiting for that new title since the year of 1989, when he was a member of the team of champions, he believes that the ’’old lady’’ is on the right track.

  • It has been 35 years since that second championship title, and we had also been awaiting that title for a long time, since 1966, but I hope the third one will come soon. Last summer when I returned from China to Novi Sad, I had the opportunity to talk to the Club’s president, Dragoljub Zbiljić, and I can say that Vojvodina has a serious vision. I would like everyone to support him in that vision, and to make use of his desire, because he likes to make something good and successful, that’s just the way he is. Once again, Vojvodina has all the capacities needed to attack the title in the following two-three years. I have to send this message to all Vojvodina fans, I could never be satisfied with Vojvodina being fourth, fifth, or sixth on the scoreboard. I don’t want to underestimate anyone, especially not clubs like TSC or Čukarički, but Vojvodina is a great club that needs to fight for the title with Partizan and Red Star every year – Šapurić highlighted.

 

The ex-player and director of Vojvodina FC complimented the work of the current Management Board, led by Dragoljub Zbiljić.

  • In order to be successful, you need to have stability, and to have stability you need to have organized people who lead the club, because good results come after that. President Zbiljić left a great impression on me, and everyone around him should feed on his energy and motivations, because that is the only way Vojvodina can achieve their goals. I can tell that Vojvodina has an exceptional financial stability, and that all the conditions to create a strong team are there. They need good organization, and quality work, and the results will then follow – he pinpointed.

Among other things, he believes that Vojvodina’s place in the near future is in the group stage of the UEFA competitions.

  • My biggest wish is for Vojvodina to play in Europe, and enter the group stage of the Conference League, because that is the right competition for our standards. I believe that Vojvodina is not far from it. I had the opportunity to watch a friendly match here in Cyprus, and it is my belief that with a few good reinforcements, they can make a team worthy of Europe. The biggest credits go to the new head of Staff, Bandović, but they have to work and live for success – Svetozar Šapurić concluded.
