Vojvodina drew away with Red Star with the result 0-0 in the first round of the Serbian Super League.
Coaches Dejan Stanković and Slavoljub Đorđević took the following lineups on the field:
Red Star: Borjan – Gajić (from 46th Bakayoko), Dragović, Babić, Rodić (from 75th Eraković) – Krstičić, Sanogo (from 46th Kanga) – Ben (from 71th Falco), Ivanić, Katai – Krstović (from 75th Pavkov).
Vojvodina: N. Simić – Bjeković (from 28th Cucin), Kovačević, Stevanović, Devetak – Busnić, Topić (from 60th Maksimović) – Novevski (from 82nd Bastajić), Čović, V. Simić – Mrkaić (from 60th Zukić).
After only 15 seconds of the game, the captain of Vojvodina, Čović, tried a shot from a distance, but the ball went past the goal.
The Red Star fought back in the fourth minute, when Ben shot over the goal from a difficult position, and then a calmer part of the match followed. The coach of Vojvodina, Slavoljub Đorđević, had to make the first forced change in the 28th minute. Marko Bjeković complained about the injury, so Luka Cucin came in instead.
Until the 30th minute, there were no shots on goal, and then it was far more exciting until the break. Voša performed the first and excellent action in the 30th minute, Simić withdrew the counterattack, first Topić tried, Borjan bounced the ball to Mrkaić, then Cucin also tried, but his shot was blocked.
In the finish of the first part of the game, Red Star had several serious attempts, in the 44th minute. Ben fought for the ball on the five-pointer and hit the post. In the injury time of the first part of the game, Katai and Ivanić also tried, but without danger for Simić’s goal.
The second half started even more openly. First Ivanić had a dangerous attempt in the 46th minute, and in the 48th Novevski shot at Red Star goalkeeper Milan Borjan from the edge of the penalty area. The home team again had a great opportunity through Ben, who was again in the danger zone, but he shot over the goal.
Voša was waiting for its chances from the counter and in one such situation, Novevski found himself in a good position again, but he shot over the goal from the edge of the penalty area.
At the end of the hour of the game, Slavoljub Đorđević made two changes: Zukić and Maksimović came in instead of Topić and Mrkaić. Voša continued to play very organized and disciplined in defense, while Red Star tried in every way to break through the wall in front of Simić’s goal.
The coach of the Red Star started a total offensive. He introduced Falco, Pavkov and Eraković, the home team played around the penalty area of Vojvodina, but Stevanović and Kovačević commanded the defense of Vojvodina very well.
Pavkov had the best chance in the 84th minute in the second half. Katai returned the ball for Pavkov, but Nikola Simić was in the right place. Only a minute later, after Zukić’s corner kick, Čović had a great chance, but he shot with his head for a little near the goal post.
In the finish, Dragović and Falco also tried on one side, Čović on the other, but there was no change in the results until the end of the game, so Vojvodina won the first point at the start of the 2021/22 season.
