Today, Vojvodina Football Club celebrates their golden jubilee, 110th birthday.
On that occasion, ex-player and member of Vojvodina, Mr. Đorđe Vujkov, and the member of the present-day first team, Lazar Jovanović placed a laurel garland on the commemorative plaque in 12 Temerinska Street in Novi Sad, at the same place where Vojvodina FC was founded on this day in 1914.
The ex-ace of Vojvodina FC who had the honor to place the laurel garland today, Đorđe Vujkov is in the third place on the list of players with the biggest number of performances at the official matches in the jersey of Vojvodina. In the period between 1973 and 1982, he had 275 official matches played, that is, 527 if you count friendly matches. Also, he is a record breaker in the number of performances for the youth representation of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, for which he played 23 matches, and was at the same time a member of the selection that won the Youth European Championship in 1978.
After placing the garland on the commemorative plaque, the member of the Management Board, Petar Đurđev, addressed the representatives of the club, veterans, fans and media, and highlighted the importance of this anniversary for the City of Novi Sad and Serbian football in general.
- 110 years before, at the tripoint of Podbara, Salajka and Rotkvarija, a group of young Serbian boys, carried by their love for sports and the city, founded their own club in order to show themselves in the best light, and with the desire for national emancipation. Out of that boyish infatuation and love, a sports society was born, that has connected us to its history, became a part of our identity and our love. Who would have thought then that such a sports society will be born, that will give such great men that spread the name of Novi Sad, Vojvodina and our entire country across the globe. Great people who wore the red and white jersey, and who dedicated their lives to the organization of the club, and did everything to make Vojvodina one of the central topics and a part of Novi Sad’s identity. Vojvodina and Novi Sad are inextricably linked, Vojvodina represents the pretty face of our city. The very fact that something marks 110 years of existence on these grounds, is worthy of respect. That was only possible through sacrifice, effort and work. Respected veterans, thank you for everything that you have done for our club to make Vojvodina great. What love gives birth to, that lives for centuries, and this gathering today after 110 years, we are here all together, united in our love towards Vojvodina and Novi Sad – Petar Đurđev said.
