The defender of Vojvodina, Igor Jeličić, is ready to answer all the tasks and ideas of the coaching staff and he believes that a successful season is ahead of him.
In the victory over Voždovac, Jeličić made his official debut for the first team of the Old Lady in which he grew up. The young cental back played the last half hour of the game, as he replaced Luka Cucin at the right part of the pitch. He believes that the victory was necessary and very important before the continuation of the season.
– After two stronger games at the start of the championship and three in Europe, we felt the fatigue, but we showed how we should play at home. We are satisfied with the victory, but also with the fact that we managed to save our net. We hope to record a large number of such victories this season – said Jeličić.
The young 21-year-old central back returned to his Vojvodina this summer after a loan at Kabel, which meant he got used to senior football.
– Those years at Kabel significantly helped me feel what it means to play at the senior level. For me, returning to Vojvodina is returning home, that’s where I feel best. It is up to me to work hard now and to prove myself and I am ready to play everything that the coaching staff asks of me – says Jeličić.
In the absence of the injured Bjeković and the suspended Cucin, it is not impossible for Jeličić to play against LASK in the position of right back.
– I played a few games in that position, so it is not foreign to me. It meant to me yesterday to play at least those half an hour to adjust. If the coach decides I should play as a right back, I will answer in the right way and I will do my best to justify the trust – Jeličić pointed out.
The Old Lady has a difficult job ahead of her on Thursday, because she has to beat LASK in Klagenfurt if she wants to reach the Conference League playoffs.
– We lacked a little luck to get a better result in front of our fans. If Čović’s shot from the goalpost had entered the goal and we had taken the lead 1-0, the situation would have been completely different and we would have been in a better position before the return match. But, we are going to Austria to play manly and bravely, we have nothing to be afraid of. With a little luck and God’s will, we believe that we can reach a result that will take us further – Jeličić concluded.
The match LASK – Vojvodina is on the program on Thursday at 9 p.m.
