On the occasion of the Statehood Day, which is celebrated today and tomorrow on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, the football club Vojvodina congratulates today’s holiday to all citizens of our country, all sports clubs and federations, as well as all football and state institutions.
The Statehood Day of Serbia was established in memory of the day when the First Serbian Uprising was raised in Orašac in 1804 under the leadership of Đorđe Petrović Karađorđe, after whom the stadium of Vojvodina is named.
Also, on this day in 1835 in Kragujevac, the first Constitution of the Principality of Serbia was adopted, the so-called The Constitution of Sretenje, which was one of the most modern, most democratic and most liberal constitutions of its time, and which officially abolished feudalism in Serbia.
Serbia’s Statehood Day was celebrated until the creation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918, after which it was abolished, only to be celebrated in Serbia again in 2002.
